Which projects are
eligible for funding?

Under the SMART Path - R&D module, companies, including start-ups, can apply for funding if they want to develop innovative products or technologies starting from any level of technological readiness (from II to IX). In addition, the same application can cover several modules, such as implementation of R&D results, R&D infrastructure, internationalisation, digitalisation, greening or competence development can also be applied for within one application.

Industrial research (TRL II-VI)

This is work that is innovative, creative, methodical, unpredictable and aimed at practical application in industry, in particular the search for the application of scientific research in new products, services or technologies. Industrial research results in models/prototypes that are tested under simulation or near-real conditions.

Development (TRL VII-IX)

This is the further development of a technology or product consisting of the construction of final prototypes and their demonstration under real-world conditions, aimed at their final validation prior to market. This development work culminates in a full-scale technology demonstrator, i.e. at the target scale for the product or technology.

Who can apply in 
the SMART Path?    

The SMART Path is intended for companies wishing to carry out a research and development project on their own or in a consortium with another company or research entity, provided that only the company can be the project leader.

or revenues < EUR 50 million

Large enterprises

Consortia of enterprises

Consortium of large enterprises or SMEs with other large enterprises or SMEs, including associated enterprises - with up to 3 consortium members.

Consortia of enterprises and research entities

Consortium of large enterprises or SMEs with research units - up to 3 members of the consortium with the enterprise as leader.

What costs are eligible
for financing?

The grant in the SMART Path - R&D module finances comprehensively the entire process of creating innovations, including the costs of building prototypes or technology demonstrators. Costs that do not fall within the closed catalogue of eligible costs can be financed from indirect costs representing a maximum of 25% of the remaining costs, excluding subcontracting.

What is the level
of financing?

The maximum amount of R&D grant that can be applied for under the SMART pathw is €20 million.The level of financing depends on the type of work carried out in the project and the size of the company.

Current
calls for applications

The call for applications for SMEs and large companies applying on their own is ongoing. Applications can be submitted from 21 February to 9 May 2023. The budget of the competition for SMEs is PLN 4.45 billion, while the competition for large enterprises allocates PLN 667 million. The next call for applicationsfor for SMEs and large companies applying on their own will begin on May 10 and run until June 30.
